Plymouth expertise helps Newton Abbot leading business

Leading South West electrical wholesaler and retailer Sparkworld Limited has improved its customer service thanks to a new software system provided by Plymouth specialists.
Sparkworld, based in Heathfield, Newton Abbot, has two retail sites and a warehouse with more than a million pounds worth of stock. It also supplies 140 independent electrical retailers across the country.
“Keeping on top of the business with this level of stock and shops to service means we needed a system that could handle our stock control, our point of sale and our back office systems,” said managing director Marian Crausaz. So they called in Plymouth specialists Soft-Works (UK) Limited who installed a complete new package for them.
“The new system has been running for a year and we are absolutely delighted with how it is going,” said Marian. “The system is so fast that although we have a database of more than 10,000 customers we can call up an individual customer’s details in seconds.
“We also have an up-to-the-minute record of our stock so when a customer or one of our retailers wants something we can source it quickly. That helps us with our philosophy that customers can see it, buy it, and take it away.”
Soft-Works, based at Roborough, near Plymouth, says Sparkworld’s needs presented a challenge. “With such a big customer base and such a huge amount of stock it was obvious that they needed something fast and efficient,” said Darren Clifton-Jones, Soft-Works Ltd’s managing director.
“We worked closely with Sparkworld to develop this tailor-made system and we are delighted that it is working so well for them.
“Our experience in devising this type of system meant we knew what we had to do and how to do it. Companies need to keep a competitive advantage and systems like these go a long way to achieving that goal.”
