Beds -Choosing a new bed is a big concern for many people. After all, you spend maybe a third of your life in bed - you want to be comfortable! So, here's some practical advice and useful pointers to pave the way to a good decision.
Go into the shop with a good idea of what you're looking for. Comfort should always be a priority, but you might also want to consider size, storage, turning the mattress, getting in and out of bed, allergy relief and stylish looks. Consider your weight and build and make sure your bed provides proper support and comfort - don't just focus on firmness.
If the bed is for two, both partners' builds need to be taken into consideration. If one of you is small and light, and the other is tall and heavy, minimising roll-together is going to be a priority.
Once you're in the shop, try out as many beds as you can that fit your specification. Don't just lie there for a second or two; take off coats and shoes and lie in your normal sleeping position. Turn over a few times. No, the retailer will not mind - they want you to be happy with your choice! If the bed is for two, please try out the bed together.
A larger bed gives you more space to stretch out and to change position, so it's a good idea. Many of our beds are available in Super King size. But do remember you still need to get the bed into the bedroom, and then get into the bedroom once the bed is in place!
Don't try to save by buying a new mattress to go on an old base. They're designed to work together: your new mattress won't last half as long used that way - it'll soon feel exactly like the old one.
If turning a mattress is a problem, you now have a choice of no-turn mattresses. But every good idea has its downside! While no-turn mattresses are specially designed to cope with all the wear on one side, they are unlikely to last quite as long as a traditional mattress that's regularly turned. It could be worth it!
Dreamworks Beds:
All divan bases are built with superior quality kiln-dried timber, hand selected for low knot content for extra strength. Contoured corner blocks and divan lining are standard. All double divans are split widthways and joined with internal fittings, apart from our 180 cm bases that are split lengthways and joined using external linking bars. Easy moving ball or twin wheel covered castors are standard. SPRUNG EDGE - A complete open spring unit on a crafted frame. Softer and more luxurious than other bases. PLATFORM - Padded top divans create a firmer feel to the mattress. FIRM EDGE - A complete spring unit encased in a timber frame. The base is supplied complete with 6" legs.
Mattresses are available ia a choice of pocket spring or open coil spring units, all available in a wide range of size options as standard. In addition, pocket sprung mattresses are available with machine stiched borders or hand side stiching for superior comfort and support. All mattresses have flag-stitched handles for easier handling. POCKET SPRING - Each spring is individually wrapped in its own material ‘pocket’. This allows each spring to work independently of the others thus eliminating “roll-together” and providing the right support and comfort to your body. OPEN SPRING - Double heat treated springs to retain shape and height. Rod-edged for longevity and edge-to-edge support. Springs are linked across the mattress for even weight distribution.
Dreamworks Beds offer both traditional and contemporary wooden bed frames. These are produced in a variety of hardwoods which are sourced from managed forests. A full range of guest beds are also available with colour options.
Each bedstead and guest bed is supplied with beech sprung slats and is easy to assemble. Choose any Dreamworks Beds mattress to partner your bedstead.

Sofas:
A sofa (derived from the Arabic word suffah), also called a couch or settee, is an item of furniture designed to seat more than one person and providing support for the back and arms. Typically, it will have an armrest on either side. In homes sofa's are normally found in the family room, living room, den or the lounge. They consist of a wooden or metal structure supplemented by padding and are covered in a variety of textiles, leather, or sometimes a combination of both. Sofa's can be purchased individually in different styles and sizes (2 seat, 3 seat, 4 seat etc). Or as part of a set accompanied by another sofa or arm chairs. Sets with arm chairs are generally known as suites and the most common formation is 3 + 1 + 1 (3 seater sofa and 2 arm chairs).
When you're thinking about a new sofa, you'll want to check our sofa buying tips. While it is important to get a sofa in just the right colour, it is just as important to get one that will last. Inexpensive furniture can break, pop springs, and look out of shape within a year of constant use. Quality construction will offer years of enjoyment and has enough good "bones" to allow you to recover it periodically.
Choose the Style of Cushions for Your New Sofa
First decide if you prefer the look of loose back cushions or attached. Loose cushions give you the option of turning the pillows as needed, while attached backs won't need fluffing or rearranging. Be sure to sit in the sofa you are considering. Is it comfortable? Are the arms the right height for taking a nap or reading a book?
How Many Cushions Do You Like on a Sofa?
How many seat cushions would you like? One cushion offers a clean modern look while two or three are traditional. When you sit on the cushions, do they stay in place or do the corners flare up? Are they attached to the frame with a clip to hold them down?
What Style of Sofa Arm Do You Like?
Choose an arm style for your new sofa. You can choose from armless, traditional rolled arm, curved English arm, or a straight Parsons style. The rolled arm has a flat front panel and is often outlined in cording. English style is rounded at the front, with fabric formed into sunburst-type pleats. Straight arm sofas are most often seen in contemporary settings.
A Skirted Sofa or One With Bare Legs?
Do you want a skirted sofa or one with the visible legs? Choose from leg styles that vary from heavy square chunks and wide bun feet to more delicate tapered legs or carved and curved formal versions. Legs are usually available in a number of finishes as well.
Understand Frame Construction for Upholstered Furniture
Ask about the construction of a sofa under consideration. The best are made from kiln-dried hardwoods (oak, maple, poplar, etc.), while inexpensive furniture is made from softer pine lumber. Interior construction is important as well. Cheap furniture is stapled together and has haphazardly constructed corner bracing. Better frames are securely screwed together.
Understand Sofa Seat Construction
Find out how the seat support system is made. Often a furniture store will have a cutaway model of the interior of upholstered pieces. Does it have quality 8-way tied springs or cheaper wire coils?
Choosing the Cushion and Pillow Filling for Your Sofa
The cushion and pillow filling are important to the feel of a sofa. Upholstery foam is inexpensive and comes in several thicknesses and weights, however the best cushions have down fillings. All-down cushions must be fluffed daily, though another option uses down pads wrapped around a core of foam. Understand these options for the sofa you want and which might be best for you. Are the cushions standard or special order, foam or down?
Choose the Fabric for You New Sofa's Final Cover
Choose a fabric for your sofa. Chenille is soft and durable while Leather is long-lasting and attractive. Velvets and other fabrics look lovely but may wear out with heavy use over the years. Finally consider options for trimmings. Dress up a sofa with fringed pillows or double welted seams. While these options add to the cost, they also give your piece a one-of-a-kind look. Many furniture manufacturers also offer the option of custom-made slipcovers to give you a seasonal change.
